Engineered Growing Media (Bupc)®

BOSQUES URBANOS ULTRA POROUS CERAMIC (BUPC)® soil amendment permanently improves custom blend growing media for any Green Roof applications. BUPC® is an inorganic soil amendment proven on many applications and tests across the country to resist compaction, eliminate localized dry spot, promote air and nutrient exchange and facilitate healthy root systems for all applications where low maintenance and high performance is required. A kiln-fired porous ceramic from a unique mineral deposit in the Dominican Republic. BUPC® replaces sand or sand-based soils making plants grow more sustainable especially on Green Roofs. BUPC® is available in different grain sizes and we offer standard soil mixes for different applications.

A single BUPC® particle can have up to 50% pore space with 30% capillary (water) pores and 30% non-capillary (air) pores. Blended with standard soils, BUPC® improves water- and nutrient- holding capabilities, increased oxygen levels at the root zone, and facilitates drainage when soils are saturated. The particles also hold water and nutrients and release it as needed to the plant, delaying the need for irrigation. The different sizes of the ceramic aggregate allow a wide variety of different soil blends. However, we always recommend using our standard mixes for different application.
